When to Book Maternity & Newborn Photography | Salisbury, Huntersville & Charlotte

A Stress-Free Timeline for Expecting Mamas

If you’ve thought about maternity and newborn photography in Salisbury NC but you don’t know when to book, you’re not alone. Let me help you map out the timing — and take the pressure off.

Becoming a mother is a beautiful, whirlwind chapter. It moves faster than we expect. When your bump rounds, and then your newborn is here, all you want is to look back on these moments — and take in how little they are. But many expecting mamas feel unsure: When do I book maternity? When should newborn happen? What if I miss the window?

That’s exactly why I designed my full-service experience: to walk alongside you, remove the guesswork, and help you create beautiful frames and albums that you can display in your home—not just digital files sitting in a folder. Serving Salisbury, Huntersville, and Charlotte, NC, and the surrounding communities, it is my desire to make you feel valued, loved, and cared for while taking some of the stress off your plate.

Here’s your timeline + roadmap — and how my membership helps you along the way.

1. Best Time to Book Maternity

📆 Ideal window: 28 to 34 weeks
This is when your bump is beautifully defined — and you’re still comfortable. If we wait past 34 weeks, you might start to feel more fatigued and less flexible.

If you’re delivering at Natural Beginnings Birth Center in Statesville, NC or Novant Health Rowan Medical Center near Salisbury, NC, I recommend booking your session a few months before your due date. Booking early (think soon after that 12-week mark) ensures we can reserve your date before the busyness of parenthood sets in — and before my calendar fills.

Pro tip: Book it alongside your newborn session (or at least reserve a flexible newborn window). This creates a seamless flow between sessions, so once baby arrives, you can simply relax knowing your photos are already taken care of.

2. Newborn Session Timing & Flexibility

📆 Ideal newborn window: within first 7–14 days
These early days are precious — babies are sleepier, curled, and pose gently. I like to plan with a buffer: I keep a few slots open around your due date so when baby arrives, we simply choose the day that works best.

However, if baby comes early or late, – or if you need time- we adjust. For this mama pictured below- due to trips and recovery time — we were unable to photograph this little one until closer to the two month mark. I’ve actually found that babies photographed later are more awake so you can capture more of their little personality. So if something happens or if we aren’t able to photograph within that 7-14 day window — it’s okay. Flexibility is built into every plan for mama who lives near Salisbury, Huntersville, and Charlotte.

3. A Full-Year Membership + Workflow That Lifts the Load

Many of my clients choose the membership — the First Year Collective route (versus booking session-by-session). Why?

  • You don’t have to wonder when to book — it’s already planned.
  • Hair and makeup is included- allowing you to feel beautiful and confident in this new postpartum season.
  • I guide you through wardrobe, styling, session timing, and location.
    • I also include a gift card to the Branded Peach Boutique in Statesville, NC (who is opening a baby boutique nearby this winter!)
  • You’ll receive digital images and artwork that is included with the membership (collages, frames, albums).
  • At each session, I’ll walk you through choosing your favorites and the design of your chosen art pieces- so you don’t feel overwhelmed with choices.
  • You end up with physical pieces you’ll see every day in your home — not just digital files.

For Kristi- she chose to display a striking large framed portrait and in the nursery, a curated collage frame of three of her favorites. Every art piece is designed to complement your home and grow with your family.

A Morning with little Grayden

Kristi and Matt’s newborn session with their sweet boy, Gray, was such a peaceful morning. We photographed everything at their home and on their family land in Salisbury, NC— the place that already held so much meaning for them.

We took our time, letting Gray set the pace. He’d take a break for a bottle, then we’d swaddle him up and step outside for a few photos in the soft morning light — a reminder that every baby has their own rhythm, and it’s always worth working around that.

Every baby is different, which is why I always leave room for flexibility and comfort during each session. My goal is for it to feel easy — like you can just focus on soaking in this new season while I capture it for you.

If you’re dreaming of a maternity and newborn photography in Salisbury NC that feels relaxed and personal — one that reflects your family’s rhythm and love — I’d be honored to help you plan it.
